Warning Shots
What would you do in the middle of the night if you heard one or more people trying to break through your locked gate or door? Grab your gun and get ready to confront the intruders? Do you give them a warning shot or do you wait for them to illegally enter your property then take action?
Many of us would answer with an initial warning shot in hopes that we would not have to kill another human being. What if giving the criminals a warning shot landed you in jail?
Who was in the wrong in this situation? The homeowner? The police? Maybe neither? Should the law about firing your weapon in a metropolitan area have a clause excluding people firing a warning shot to stop criminal activity?
Unfortunately now days it seems that law abiding gun owners have more laws against them than they do for them. One thing that we do have on our side is that we have the right to face these types of charges in front of a jury of our peers.
