Open or Concealed

We gun owners are used to people of the anti-gun camp making arguments against our legal and responsible gun ownership. Concealed carry with a permit is allowed in all states except one, Illinois. There are only 12 states that allow open carry with little restriction: Alabama, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, South Dakota, Vermont, Kentucky, and Virginia. If you are a law abiding citizen in good standing, you are free to carry.

Not everyone in the pro-gun camp likes the idea of open carry. There are some that say that open carry would give more chances of gun related accidents. Others say that open carry would be a great crime deterrent due to the fact more guns would be present in the general public. Each side has legitimate points on the issue, but most issues come down to personal responsibility. I know that some will automatically state that many of today’s citizens lack personal responsibility, and I would have to agree with that to a certain extent.

How do we solve the problem? The answer is simple, but hard in the execution of the solution. What might that answer be? Our youth. Responsible gun owners need to properly educate and train today’s youth in the proper use and handling of firearms. That’s not to say that we can’t try and train every adult as well.

Ask yourself this question: Why do I need to pay for a license to be able to carry my gun when the 2ND Amendment guarantees me the right to bear arms? Like Ted Nugent says, “The 2nd amendment is my concealed carry license “, or open carry for that matter. The only reason we must ask (or pay in most cases) to legally carry a firearm is because we have given up our right to do so in the past.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” -2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America

WE THE PEOPLE are the militia spoken of. We are the last line of defense against a foreign enemy invasion and the first line of defense against a tyrannical government. If we wait for someone else to do what needs be done, then by the time it gets done, it may be too late.

Whether you are for or against open carry, or concealed carry for that matter, it comes down to one question we must ask ourselves: What will I have to ask permission for tomorrow?

We are free citizens and we should act and be treated as such.

Happy Shooting, God Bless America and God bless you and yours ~

About James

  1. Open carry is legal without a permit in Pennsylvania with the exception of Philadelphia where a permit is required for all carry.

  2. Open carry is legal without a permit in Pennsylvania with the exception of Philadelphia where a permit is required for all carry.

  3. We don’t have a concealed carry permit in Indiana. We have a license to carry handgun & how we carry it is up to us.

  4. Great to get your responses. When researching the other states I was actually surprised to find out that there was even 12 states that had little restriction on firearm carry. Like the old saying goes, gun control is not about guns, but about control. That is why I wish every American would learn proper use and handling of all guns. You can never learn too much.

  5. I have never given away my rights to carry concealed. To allow a government entity to grant a “permit” DOES allow that they also may take that right away at any time, for it is not a right, but an allowance. That is the danger of EVER accepting a concealed carry permit of any kind. The founder’s believed that we, as citizens had a God given right, not a government granted permit to enjoy safety from attack. We had the permission of GOD to defend ourselves. To say otherwize does give away your rights to a permit, or permission granted by the government. I would encourage Ted Nugent to contact me to discuss this. I respect his views on so many things, but in this is revealed a tragic surrender to government. THAT is not in the best interest of Constitutional, and God given freedoms or liberties! • I could not agree more WD. It is tragic that many Americans have laid down over the years and let their rights and freedoms be stripped from them and their fellow Americans. The one thing that disappoints me the most about Americans and the 2nd Amendment is they fail to realize that the 2nd Amendment is what gives our great Constitution it’s teeth and every time they give up part of it they get closer to becoming a slave.

I have noticed that the tide is trying to change as more and more Americans are arming themselves. My only concern is that they get the proper training and practice to make the most of it in the case they ever have to use it.

It is solely the American gun owner that kept the Japanese from invading during WWII. The emperor knew that “there would be gun behind every blade of grass”. If our enemy at that time backed down because of our gun owners then why do so many willingly give up their rights now? I do not know understand myself. Like yourself and Ted Nugent, the 2nd Amendment is my concealed carry permit.

Thank you for your comments. We encourage that our readers comment because we are all in this boat together.
